In my computers class we are learning many new things about computers such as how to use google docs, Microsoft office, build a website on Weebly, and also things like how to be a better searcher on Google, etc. There is so much I do not know about computers which is one reason I like the class so much. It is very difficult at times, but very interesting and fun. Throughout the year I will be posting various pieces of my work from the class on this page.

Second Google FormThis is the fourth part of the presentation/multimedia project that I did on the Black Death. You might look at this and think that it is the exact same thing as the last quiz I did (below). Well it is made on Google Forms just like the last quiz, but it has a bit of a twist. This quiz is more like something to study with. It has multiple pages, and after you answer a question the next page tells you the answer, so you aren't actually taking a test. It is more to just refresh your memory, and see how much you know before taking the real test.
From doing this assignment I learned more about navigating Google Forms and how to do things like create a page break, which allows the quiz to be multiple pages. That was helpful to me because I think we will be using Google Forms in the future. Of course I can connect doing this to the last quiz we did below because that is the only other time I have used Google Forms before. |

Google FormThis is a Google Form. A Google Form is a type of quiz that you can make from Google Docs. This was the third part of the project that started with the presentation, and then went on to become the multimedia presentation. Now we had to make a quiz about the topic that we taught in our presentations. I think doing this was just supposed to teach us how to make a Google Form, and also to test whether or not we taught efficiently enough in our presentations to be able to make a quiz on the subject.
I can't really connect this project to any other thing I have done before since I have never made a Google Form, but I can kind of connect it to history. Making a form was completely new to me, but I think it might be a valuable skill to have later sometime. It was very easy for me, and the hardest part was trying to think of questions to put in the quiz, but even that wasn't really that hard, so I think I did a good job of showing the important facts of the Black Death in my presentations. |

Multimedia ProjectWhat you see here is called a Voki avatar. Voki is a website that allows you to create avatars like this one, and use them for any purpose you want to, such as post it to your website like I have. This Voki is actually my multimedia project for computer class. If you click on the play button below my avatar it will begin to speak, and tell you about the era of the Black Death in Medieval Europe. All I had to do was type the words into a box and then let Voki do the rest. Then I embedded it into my website, so overall it was much less complicated than I had expected it would be.
Doing this project taught me a few new things. One was how to use the basic functions of Voki. Another was how to embed something into my website, both of which will probably be useful to me more than once during school the rest of the year. My multimedia project was not just about computers though. I also had to think back to the history unit that we did on the Black Death. That unit was not really that long ago though, so the information was still somewhat fresh in my mind. This is one reason why I chose the Black Death as my topic for the initial presentation (below). Other than history I cannot really connect this to any other subject though. Overall I think this was a pretty easy project, even though it was somewhat time consuming, but It was okay because I had all Spring Break to work on it. |
PowerPoint Presentation
In my computer class we recently had to make a presentation that taught the class something that we learned at any time this year, in any class. We had the choice of using PowerPoint, Google Presentations, Prezi, Slide Rocket, and a few others. The project was not really supposed to teach us anything, but it was to get us to use our skills that we learned about making presentations earlier in the year. The real reason we did this presentation though, was to get us ready to teach the same subject in the form of a multimedia project which is something that we haven't learned yet. So really only half of the real project is done, and the presentation is only the first half.
I decided to use PowerPoint, and I did my presentation on the Black Death in Europe. It worked pretty well for me, and I was able to show all the information on the topic that I wanted to, with pictures as well. I chose PowerPoint because it is really the only website or program for making presentations I am comfortable using, and it turned out to be the right choice. This project made me think back to the time a few months ago when we went through a series of video lessons on using PowerPoint. I used a lot of those things that I learned from the videos when I did this presentation. Another thing that doing this presentation reminded me of was in sixth grade when I had to make a PowerPoint on a fable that I created during our unit on Ancient Greece. The reason that this presentation reminded me of that one is because they both involved making a computer presentation on something we were learning about in history.

This is the certificate I received for finishing the online course called Ignition. During this course, we learned about things such as how to choose the right the right computer, how to avoid and how to handle cyber-bullying, and how to protect your identity by only sharing some things about yourself on the internet. I think a lot of what was taught in this course is easy to relate to and will be useful to me in my life now and in the future.
The way that ignition is set up is into seven main topics and then sub-topics within the main ones. Before you actually start the certain section, you take a little quiz just to see what you already know and don't know. Then you begin going through the different sub-topics called modules, and at the end you take a final quiz to see what you learned from that section. This worked pretty effectively for me and I was able to pass each final quiz on my first try. I can't really relate this to any other topics, because it was basically just about life and how to avoid certain things as well as how to do things like make a great website and choose the computer that is right for you.
I learned a lot during this and I hope I will be able to apply what I learned to my own life because I think that it will help me. I am glad that we were able to do this.

Google power Search

This is my certificate for completing the online power searching with Google class. This was a very cool class and I really learned a lot from it. For example, did you know that when you search something, but you don't want a certain word in any of pages that come up as results, all you have to do is add the minus sign next to the word you don't want in any article that comes up . This will eliminate all pages with that word on it. We learned a of other things too, so that is just small example.
The class was set up in the same way that ignition was. the only difference was the tests. We took one pre-assessment before the entire class instead of before each topic's lesson. Also instead of taking a quiz after each topic, we took one assessment in the middle of the entire class and one after it. The assessments were very hard for me but I still got good scores on them after a few tries. The way the class worked, was that there were main topics, and then within those topics were five or six videos to watch that broke that main topic down.
