Welcome to my orchestra page! I have played the violin since I was in fourth grade and have pretty much always loved it. I basically just love music. Playing in a middle school orchestra is much different than playing in elementary school mainly because it is a whole class now. This means that instead of only meeting twice a week, I have practice every single day. It doesn't really matter to me though, and we play a lot of different music. We should be having a few performances throughout the year, plus honor orchestra which is something that you have to try out for, and I have to do it since I sit in the front row of the orchestra. I am excited for music this year at my school!!

One of the things we have done this year in Orchestra besides play different pieces is theory. Theory is all the technical stuff of music. This includes things like sharps, flats, naturals, whole steps, half steps, enharmonics, different keys, ear training, and tons and tons of different things that make up the music we play. Theory is not always fun, but it is extremely important to study if you are serious about playing an instrument. It gives you more understanding of the things you play, and also broadens your musical vocabulary so you can show off! This theory book has been pretty helpful to me in understanding music better, and I have learned a lot from it.
The Kjos Excellence in Theory book has taught me a lot this year. It also just refreshed my mind about a lot of things. One thing I learned more about was whole notes and half notes which in some cases confused me before. I also learned about enharmonics, which is just a fancy name for two different notes that are actually the same pitch such as A flat, and G sharp. At the back of this book there is also a section about music history, and there are different part each time period of music such as Baroque, Classical, and 20th century pop. I like that part of the book because I like history, so it was cool to learn about music and history at the same time. I think overall I really benefited from doing the exercises in this book.
